You Guessed Right: Obama's Biggest Donors Are From Hollywood

Obama hauled in a ton of campaign cash in the 4th quarter of 2011. $68 million. And, according to Justin Sink at The Hill, a lot of it came from Hollywood and the media.

Here are just three people that each raised more than $500,000 for Obama: Miramax founder Harvey Weinstein, Deamworks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, and the editor of Vogue, Anna Wintour.

In that same quarter, Will Smith also hosted a Hollywood fundraiser for Obama at the home of movie producer Jacob Lassiter. That was immediately followed by other dinners at the homes of Antonio Banderas, and Melanie Griffith. Even singer Hillary Duff attended one of the dinners and kicked in $38,500

Hollywood isn't fitting the entire bill of course. The Hillreports that the bulk of donations were from small-donors and first-time donors.

But Obama's campaign team pointed out that they received donations from 583,000 individuals in the fourth quarter, around 200,000 of whom had never donated to either this or the president's initial campaign. The average contribution to the president's campaign was $55, with the vast majority - 98 percent - of donations coming in at $250 or less.

Republicans are running far behind Obama on the money-front. The Republican National Committee raised just $27 million last quarter, and GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney raised about $24 million.

Expect even more from the entertainment community next month. Spike Lee recently hosted Obama for another Manhattan fundraiser at $38,500 a plate.
